My reply tho IDX Vendor, below, here and by email:

After looking at the demo site, I would never consider your product as shown. The page loads extremely slow, minimum 10-12 seconds if not more, and the lack of detailed search options is pitiful.

If you fix those major issue and ever have a successful IDX implementation in the Denver market in the future, I would love to see it. But I wouldn't bet my business on being the first. My current website is already on the Joomla platform, uses the UltimateIDX product, and has been consistently generating 160-220 leads per month starting 2 months after going live.

Alyssa,
The solution for your client may be as easy as finding a good commercial IFramed IDX instead of a custom plugin. IFramed IDX solutions are everywhere, are proven, and are generally pretty quick and inexpensive to implement and maintain. If SEO is key, and price is no object, a custom integrated IDX may be the way to go. But again, perhaps not as a plugin, which then involves being intimately integrated with a specific WordPress or Joomla release, but a semi-integrated solution, free standing from the main site, but within a folder of the main site. That way, the technologies of the IDX and the rest of the website can be relatively isolated and independent. That's basically how mine is implemented.

I was wondering how plugins fitted in with MLS. I have had a web design Realtor client ask me about it,, just found your post which helped immensely. Given the different formats, it might be better for me to look for a plugin developer to write something specific for my clients own MLS.

My MLS is one of those, backwards ones who had just tried to keep things the same old way. They have realized they need to change, but now are doing all they can to ensure that we realtors have no power without them.

They are really slow at approving any IDX vendors or solutions as they want to keep the information to themselves as much as possible.

Good point about MLS being a regional guideline, not a universal standard.

The whole process of trying to unify MLS data reminds me of web browser frustrations. I think it makes a decent analogy to the problem posed with MLS data. Each web browser handles Javascript differently. Certain features deprecated in one browser may still exist in another.

It is encouraging to see an open-source attempt at it though!
